The Alcatel-Lucent Global Product
Compliance Laboratory (GPCL) provides complete testing to the Network
Equipment Building System (NEBS) requirements for products to ensure the
product is safe and does not interfere with the reliable operation of the
network. NEBS compliance is a critical issue to service providers
evaluating the suitability of products for use in their networks.
The GPCL test facilities and automated test
instrumentation provide accurate and repeatable measurements. Experienced
test engineers and a flexible scheduling policy translate to cost
effective product approval. The GPCL participates in the Verizon
Independent Test Lab (ITL) witnessing program.
Equipment deployed by service providers in Central
Office (CO) space and data rooms must not create a risk or safety hazard
to personnel, other nearby equipment, or the physical building
structure. The service providers also require that network equipment
in their network deliver dependable and reliable performance under normal
and abnormal operating conditions encountered during the products life.
The NEBS generic requirements are used by service
providers to qualify equipment that will provide a high level of
reliability and safety to their network. The following documents are
commonly referred to as the NEBS Criteria, and are required for evaluating
telecommunications type products for central office and customer premise
applications:
GR-63-CORE, "Network Equipment-Building System
(NEBS) Requirements: Physical Protection"
GR-1089-CORE, "Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electrical Safety
Generic Criteria for Network Telecommunications Equipment"
GR-78-CORE, "Generic Requirements for the Physical Design and
Manufacture of Telecommunications Products and Equipment."
